Running Out of Water During Your Camping Trip: How to Get Clean Water

Reaching for your cache of water in the outdoors and finding it nearly empty is a true nightmare. If you are faced with an emergency water shortage in the middle of your camping or hiking excursion, don’t panic.

You will get through it. Keep a cool head, try to preserve as much of your available water as you can and clean out any new sources of water you find.

If you come across a potential water source like a fresh stream, a lake or a natural pond, make sure you remove all the pathogenic substance from it before you drink it.

Obtaining clean water out in the wild isn’t as difficult as it may sound. All it takes is some patience and an understanding of how to use outdoor water source in a safe way.

Effectively Kill Pathogens With A Portable Water Purifier

Portable water purifiers are truly your best friend out in the wild. A water purifier brings in a chemical component to clean the natural water. This is why purifiers prove to be far more effective in killing off bacteria and getting rid of microbes.

If you’re looking for a safe and quick way to obtain clean water out in the wilderness, buy a purifier. With water purifiers, you have the added advantage of being able to drink the water as soon as it’s clean. Modern water purifiers have become, quite affordable and come in small sizes for your convenience.

If you choose to, you don’t even need to bring too many bottles of water. Just use your water purifier!

Boiling Water

If you don’t have the option of ridding water of germs and bacteria using a water purifier, you may have to resort to rudimentary means. Boiling water is the second easiest choice you have.

To successfully kill any bacteria that are bound to be present in your water source, bring it to a boil for approx. 10 minutes.  This requires a little more work than using a water purifier, but if you don’t have access to one, this will get the job done.

Note: Boiled water doesn’t taste as fresh as purified one. So shake or stir the water to get some oxygen back into it.
